Seriously?

So I'm pretty obsessed with my baby registries. And by obsessed I mean I'm constantly tweaking the lists, adding things, removing things, reading customer reviews.....

In my quest to hone in on the best necessities, I occasionally come across some products that I'd consider to be a bit.... excessive. Here are two examples:

The Floppy Seat Shopping Cart Cover

Now I'm not opposed to the cart cover concept, but do you really need that much fabric? Why anyone would want to walk around a store with this giant contraption covering their cart is beyond me. That said - the product got good reviews from 42 moms.

High Five H1N1 50 Pack Face Masks

These are definitely my favorite. 1) Because they're special "H1N1" face masks and 2) They're found on the Toys R Us website. Are people still that concerned with swine flu that they'd invest ten bucks in a pack of some pretty serious looking face masks? So far no customer reviews are posted... so perhaps this "new" product entered the market a bit late.

David the Gnome.

Tim and I recently purchased the dvd box set of David the Gnome - a cartoon we used to watch when we were little about a gnome doctor that lives in the forest. It seems a lot of people our age have similar euphoric feelings attached to the memory of this show, so we thought we'd buy it for ourselves Jack.

We'd actually been talking about David the Gnome and wanting to revisit its splendor months before I got pregnant, so we couldn't wait for it to arrive in the mail a few weeks ago and start watching it as soon as we had it in our hot little hands.

Of course, watching the show as a simple-minded six year old is far different from watching it now, especially when it comes to the rather... "odd" breaks in the plot. For example, David the Gnome is first introduced to viewers as he sits and washes himself in the tub (and subsequently gets out of the tub as his wife holds a towel up). An interesting choice for "first impressions" - we felt - but amusing nonetheless.

A few episodes later, during a tour of his home, you find David sitting on the toilet, pants down, telling viewers that the bathroom is his favorite room in the house - which he calls the "Recreational Room" - because he enjoys relaxing and whittling while he's in there (essentially, while he poops...) And of course, they show a shot of three or four little wooden figurines he's whittled during his current "session."

Puzzling. Amusing, but puzzling.

Take it to the Mattresses.

The time has finally come for us to buy a new mattress. As much as I love my old mattress (from college) it's a double and after sleeping on a king for the past 6 months, we've become spoiled and "need" an upgrade.

So now I'm stuck with the conundrum of choosing between two really nice mattresses. If you know me at all, you know I hate having to pick between two equally appealing options. And when the decision is in regards to something you are going to sleep on every night for the next umpteen years.... let's just say, there's a whole lotta pressure that comes with it.

Will it be the plush foam option from Mattress Matters? Or the luxury orthopedic from Original Mattress Factory? Gahh, I just don't know. And the last thing I want is to pick one, and then a few months from now be lying there thinking "We should have totally gone with the other one."

These are the thoughts that plague me. Yes, I am definitely a product of a consumerist society - and I'm very much ashamed to admit it. But I still need to pick a mattress....

New Beginnings.

I know its been a while. Almost a year. I'm always torn between whether or not to write blogs, because I'm certain no one is reading them. But maybe I'm wrong. After all, I know how much I love reading about daily goings-on of different people in my life, especially those who I don't get to see on a regular basis.

So the Myers' blog is officially reopened for business. I figure with the BIG change coming up in just over two months, we'll have lots to talk about. Not to mention the exciting fact of finally living in our own place again (renovation is almost complete!)

For those of you who aren't caught up since... July of 2009 (the last time I posted about us).... alot has changed. We moved back in with my parents while we await our new apartment's completion - a project that has taken far longer than any of us expected. And of course... the least expected change came back in October when I found out I was pregnant!

Little Jack Myers is due June 21 (by induction) unless he decides to make an appearance without assistance :) We can't WAIT to meet him. What we know about him so far is:

• He's a boy (obviously!)
• He has long femur bones which means long legs (hmmm, I wonder who he gets those from?)
• He likes to kick those long legs with much vim and vigor.
• His favorite hobby is hiccuping - and doing so quite frequently.
• In the prophetic words of two separate people, he's going to be "feisty."
  
• He is, quite simply, a little miracle sent to us from God.

Alright, well we'll see how this all goes with me posting and such. As always, I make no promises that I'll be able to keep up!

Date Night.

Yesterday was a practically perfect afternoon with a perfectly delightful evening to follow.

The day consisted of...

two naps, respectively.

laundry (clean towels!)

a hike in the woods on our favorite trail.

a matinee movie ("away we go" - two thumbs up!)

dinner at Tommy's.

a stop in at Truffles...

which led to two coffees and an enormous macaroon.

t.v. & a game of crossword.

an edifying conversation to end the night.

i am now...

thinking about cameras, photography,

and looking for a new web host (free!)

and also about to pee my pants.

i've had about 8 cups of coffee today, and feeling it.

Day at the Lake.

Tim took the day off in hopes of seeing an academic advisor at Tri-C today - he got August 6th, which was the next available appointment.

Never to waste a free day together... we spent part of the afternoon on Hinkley Lake in a pedal boat. For $15 we got an hour's leg work out.... pedaling our way across the lake and against the current :) It was a beautiful sunny afternoon as we a) pursued a duck

b) took a much needed picture of the two of us (woo! finally!)

c) tried on the really gross life jackets (just for show)

It seemed like a pretty simple way to spend the afternoon, but special because it was something different and we were out in nature enjoying the beautiful weather! Although, I'm pretty sure our legs will be stiff tomorrow. Pedal boats offer quite the work out!

4th of July.

I guess this post is a little late - considering its now the 8th of July. But it's the only topic I could think of to comment on. So here goes...

This past weekend Allie & Eden came down for a visit and it was lovely, lovely, lovely. It was kind of a last minute thing so Tim and I were scrambling around trying to clean and get the apt ready in time. It forced me to do a lot of those odd jobs I had been putting off, like putting the last coat of paint on the tree "mural" in the spare room.

Most of our weekend was pretty uneventful - we never had any concrete plans for the day so we ended up just relaxing a lot... or shopping. The best purchase of the weekend was definitely the hibachi grill Tim got from Marcs for (drumroll)... $10! And it was a nice one too! He cooked hamburgers and shrimp on it for Independence Day which was exciting (even if the shrimp tasted a bit like lighter fluid). Unfortunately he had to go downstairs and squat out on the driveway to use it (for safety reasons) but it was still neat to have our own little grill.

I wish now I'd snapped a picture of him using it.... in fact, I was thinking today how few pictures we've taken since being married. Since meeting, come to think of it. Most of the pictures that exist of the two of us were taken by someone else without our prompting.

So, I'm determined to be more proactive with the photo cataloguing of

our life - despite my hatred for having my picture taken. I vow that the next post will be a picture post only.
